堀川敬周 Horikawa Keishu (around 1789-1858)
Horikawa Keishu was the first town painter in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, at the end of the Edo period (1603-1868), and laid the foundation of the early Takaoka art world. After studying under Azuma Toyo of the Shijo School in Kyoto, Keishu returned to Takaoka, where he painted landscapes, flowers and birds, and figures, and trained many apprentices.
